The YOPP Data Portal is harvesting discovery metadata on YOPP datasets hosted at PANGAEA. Datasets are discoverable, but there are no higher order services like bundling with other data, subsetting nor visualisation available.
ECMWF has begun to generate an extended two-year global dataset to support the World Meteorological Organization’s Year of Polar Prediction (YOPP). read the full article at http://www.ecmwf.int/en/about/media-centre/news/2017/ecmwf-generating-d…. Metadata information on this dataset is included in the metadata search available in the YOPP Data Portal.
The YOPP Data Portal is currently under implementation. Content and functionality may be unstable in this phase. The OGC Web Map Service isdisabled in the testing and will be reactivated once it works properly.
The YOPP Data Portal is the entry point for YOPP datasets. It offers a web interface that contains information about datasets (through discovery metadata). These metadata are harvested on a regular basis from data centres actually managing the data on behalf of the owners/providers of the data.
The YOPP Task Team is developing the YOPP Data Portal, creating and overview of user requirements, developing interoperability guidelines, and operations manual. The current structure of the team is:
In order to guide the YOPP community on sharing data through the YOPP Data Portal a number of documents have been developed. The most important ones are:
Whenever producing NetCDF/CF files, it can be wise to check whether the files actually follows the specification. A service checking against the CF convention and also the Attribute Convention for Dataset Discovery is available. Push the image to get to the service.
Supporting data centres
The following data centres are currently connected to the YOPP Data Portal and discovery metadata on YOPP datasets (as identified by the supporting data centres through dedicated subsets of their data holdings) are harvested on a regular basis. Information on the relevant datasets are harvested using the OAI-PMH protocol for exchange of information and data documentation using GCMD DIF.
