The following is an extract of the YOPP supersite Model Intercomparison project (YOPPSiteMIP) paper.
In order to permit process-based evaluation and verification of numerical weather prediction (NWP) and climate models with observations from key locations in the Arctic, Antarctic and Third Pole, a number of super-sites have been identified.
The proposed set of locations comprises IASOA super-sites (https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/iasoa), ECCC super-sites (ecpass.ca), selected Antarctic stations, and key locations covering the so–called “third pole” (Tibetan plateau).
